Leaving from La Alcarria conquense

The Cuenca part of La Alcarria covers the north-west of the province, between the capital and Guadalajara, with Huete, rich in convents and churches, as its main town. It is an area of small, ageing villages whose residents travel to Cuenca or Tarancón for the doctor and paperwork.

Which way it goes

From Huete the route heads south to the A-40 or A-3 near Tarancón, then continues to Madrid on the A-3. Until the motorway, the journey is on local roads.

Cuenca province has two airports within reach, one on each side: Barajas along the A-3 towards Madrid and Manises along the A-3 towards Valencia. None of its towns has a direct train to a terminal, and for pre-dawn flights a car is the only option that avoids sleeping away from home.

When demand peaks

• Holidays and long weekends (Easter, summer, long weekends and Christmas): At the start and end of holidays, transfers to Barajas from Tarancón and Cuenca increase, as do AVE travellers arriving at Fernando Zóbel and heading on to the villages. First-thing flights and trains are the first to be booked.

Tip: If you are catching the AVE in Cuenca, remember that Fernando Zóbel is outside the city: allow for the drive from home to the station, not just the train time.

Airport pickup

For arrivals, the driver waits in the terminal with a name sign and helps with your luggage. We track the flight number, so a delay costs nothing extra within the terminal’s complimentary waiting time.

For early flights

We recommend leaving Huete at least 113 minutes before you want to be at the check-in desk. We operate through the night, always with an advance booking.
